Wow….Another incredible event we organized to give bags of groceries to 150 families which included a turkey and all the things to make a Thanksgiving dinner! This was so rewarding as we bought groceries (I do believe we cleaned out some grocery store shelves!) and also had a lot of items donated by individuals…
…and then a group of volunteers showed up to sort, organize and bag the groceries. Families came through picking up their turkey and groceries, and what was left was taken to housing areas to be distributed. I loved seeing so many volunteers (mostly youth) who got involved in being a blessing this Thanksgiving. We have so much to be thankful for and giving back to the community is just a small thing that we are all capable of doing in some way.
Every year probably for at least the past 10 years, I have had the opportunity and humble privilege to help my dear friends who are also the Chi Alpha Campus Pastors at UCO in Edmond, with their annual Thanksgiving Dinner. The event has grown over the years from a few meeting in the XA house to presently being in the UCO Wellness Center and feeding approximately 300 to 350 (or so!) college students! A huge number of these students are international students who have never had an American Thanksgiving Dinner. What fun it is to serve them turkey and stuffing and alllll the typical side dishes that go with our traditional turkey day dinner! I hope they were as blessed as all the volunteers were who showed up to serve dinner to them. I love this annual tradition and it is definitely worth all the work it takes to prepare the food for such a crowd (many of whom come back for seconds and take to-go boxes for their roommates!). Here’s a few pics from this year…
One of the things that I love to do is help a group or organization raise money for a good cause! November was such a busy month, but we absolutely made time for the wonderful children’s ministry at Highpointe church in OKC. A delicioso spaghetti dinner followed by an amazing array of desserts up for auction….what an awesome combination for success!! Lots of fun for everyone and lots of money raised for their department to do more incredible things for the children!!
I love cooking….its what I do. But more than that, I love serving. And even though this was a volunteer opportunity, it was my chance to give back to my church and do something for them. It is a great reward and they deserve the best from me, and what a great group of people!
Was privileged to cater a couple of dishes for a First Bethany Bank’s employee party serving about 75 people at the beautiful Ivory House in Bethany…Grilled Steak Bite Skewers and Fajita Chicken Stuffed Sweet Peppers….yum!
I had the opportunity to cater some dessert shooters for a Brokers’ Open House and this is the result! Don’t they look deliciously rich and sinful? My halo came apart when I was making them! (lol just kidding). These dessert shooters are larger than normal so you get more than just a taste! No, I’m not from Texas but I do tend to do things a little bigger than normal! So here are some Fresh Strawberries & Cream Delight and Decadent Brownie Chocolate Lush…oooo and some of our incredible Butter Toffee Cookies that will make you go..mmmmmmm.
